2009 is the year of the cow/ox and as the chinese new year approaches, there is much confusion and debate about the differences are between an ox and a cow. here is a 2-min tutorial:
Bull - An intact/un-castrated adult male
Cow - An adult female who has had one or two calves
Heifer - A young female before she has had a calf of her own
Calf - Young cattle of both sexes until they are weaned
Steer - A castrated male in the United States
Ox - A castrated male (occasionally a female or in some areas a bull) kept for draft purposes or for food
what this all means is that these are all bovines, and hence, they are all cows. happy year of the cow!
